AMP Health supports governments to build visionary and effective teams.

We are committed to the vision of a world where governments and societies prioritize, promote, and protect people’s health and well-being. Governments play a critical role in addressing complex problems and bringing this vision to reality, which is why we work with public sector teams to help them develop the leadership and management capabilities needed to achieve ambitious goals.

We partner with government teams across Africa through an approach that combines embedded mentoring and capability development; experiential learning through interactive in-person and online training; executive coaching; curated self-directed learning; and peer exchange across countries to build highly effective public sector teams.

AMP Health, founded in 2015, is a non-profit initiative supporting governments to build visionary and effective public sector teams. We are currently supporting teams in Central African Republic, Chad, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Zambia.

Basic Function

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance Coordinator to join our team. The Finance Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting our financial operations by providing administrative support on the annual budget, processing regular payments, and tracking expenses. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial processes, and proficiency in using accounting software systems, such as Planful, Tipalti, and Concur. As a Finance Coordinator, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to accurate financial reporting, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. This position provides the opportunity to learn about how to support a growing non-profit organization, gain experience working on projects across multiple geographies, and work with an innovative team to support solutions to diverse challenges related to developing leadership and management capabilities in public sector teams.

This position reports to the Associate Director, AMP Health and is located in the Aspen Institute’s Washington, D.C. office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage Accounting Software: Utilize accounting software systems such as Planful, Tipalti, and Concur to process financial transactions, track expenses, and maintain accurate financial records.

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in generating financial reports and statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, using accounting software.

  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accurate and timely recording of invoices, payments, and receipts.

  • Expense Management: Review and reconcile employee expense reports using Concur, ensuring adherence to company expense policies and proper expense coding.

  • Budget Monitoring: Collaborate with the finance and operations team to monitor budget performance, track expenses against budgeted amounts, and provide regular reports on budget variances.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze financial data and identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for process improvements or cost-saving measures.

  • Compliance and Auditing: Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, reconciling financial records, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including procurement, HR, and operations, to facilitate financial processes, resolve issues, and provide support as needed.

  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements to streamline financial operations, enhance efficiency, and maintain data integrity.

  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to team members and end-users on accounting software systems, ensuring proper utilization and adherence to best practices.

  • Financial Forecast Analysis: Track financial forecasts against actual expenditures, comparing variances and providing analysis to assist in decision-making and financial planning processes.

We are looking for candidates with the following experience and qualifications:

  • Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree preferred, ideally, with a degree in economics, accounting, business administration, or similar. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience welcome to apply.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience, ideally in the non-profit sector, with a track record of effective financial and administrative management, and administrative support accomplishment and growth.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.

  • Ability to develop forecasting tools and translate complex financial planning to an internal audience.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial record-keeping.

  • The ability to plan, prioritize, and follow through with staff, partners, and a variety of constituencies to meet financial reporting, administrative, and event deadlines.

  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data and communicating results to non-finance personnel, with the ability to analyze financial data and identify patterns and trends.

  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a small team.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing program priorities, ability to manage multiple tasks, and desire to always keep learning.

  • Competence and comfort with technology and software including financial and accounting software, Office 365, Salesforce, Google Docs, Zoom, etc.
