Instructional Design
The Instructional Design department produces the learning materials that are used in schools across the communities where we work. This department has team members based in multiple NewGlobe support offices, organized into teams that each work on a portfolio of projects. Driving student achievement through the development of rigorous content is the number one priority. One core tenet of the approach is less lecture (traditional among many schools in our markets) and more student practice. Consistent, rigorous opportunities to refine his or her skills are crucial to a child’s learning progression. The Instructional Design department structures all lessons, textbooks, and other materials to ensure this.
About the Role
NewGlobe is in the process of initiating new partnerships in Francophone countries. Our French Reading team was formed last year and the team consists of a Program Manager and an Associate. The team is in the midst of creating the first level of our foundational reading program in French, which will be taught in our Francophone partner schools starting this Fall.
The French Reading Specialist will support the team by collaborating with the Program Manager and the Director of Instructional Design to develop the infrastructure of the French Reading program. As a French Reading Specialist, you will help design the strategic vision for the French Reading program and provide the team with expertise and insights on systematic phonics and reading development in French.
What You Will Do
- Design a scope and sequence for a French Reading program. The program will consist of five year-long levels of reading instruction.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to design textbooks and create specifications for decodable reading passages for each level of instruction.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and Associate to develop fully-scripted lessons that contain phonics, decoding, vocabulary and reading comprehension exercises.
- Work with the Instructional Design Director and Program Manager to guide the execution of all program components
- Apply feedback from stakeholders to iterate on and perfect the program
What You Should Have
- Advanced proficiency in French reading, writing, and speaking (Native speaker or bilingual)
- At least 5 years of experience teaching reading in French immersion (ideally at the primary level)
- Pedagogical alignment with approaches based on systematic phonics and the science of reading and scripted instruction (familiarity with French reading programs such as La Méthode Syllabique)
- Experience developing curriculum for a French reading program
- Openness to adapting instructional materials based on learning outcomes and implementation feedback from the field
What We Offer
- Opportunity for impact: The Instructional Design department as a whole directly impacts the experiences of over one million children
- Flexible hybrid working arrangement
- Health + Dental insurance
- 20 paid leave days (excluding public holidays) and 6 sick days
