ABOUT ALU

ALU provides higher education for a higher purpose. Our students declare missions, not majors.
They develop the real-world skills to take on the world’s most pressing challenges. And they take ownership of their learning from day one through our peer and student-led approach – because ALU believes in the power and agency of young people to start shaping the future right now.
Together with a world-class faculty and staff, our students are igniting a ripple of positive impact across Africa and the world.

HOW WE WORK

As a high-growth start-up, the ALU Team works in starkly different ways to traditional academic bureaucracies. We approach education from first principles, empower individuals to design, test, and implement creative new ideas, and work closely together to craft transformative learning experiences. We are deeply passionate about our students and excited by the challenge of building something entirely new.

The African Leadership University is committed to ensuring the safety and Well-being of all students under our care. As part of this commitment , we have a comprehensive safeguarding policy in place , which outlines our Zero-tolerance approach to any violation of safeguarding.

ABOUT THE ROLE

YOU ARE

You are someone who is able to zoom out to view the big picture and zoom in to be more detail-oriented across multiple levels of the ecosystem that we are designing for. You are willing to lean and learn into change and failure; having the humility to accept that there may be no “right” answers per se, there are only hypotheses in cycles of continuous learning, having a “figuring it out” mindset in the face of uncertainty, trusting that your teammates will be there to support you.

“Any design is a reflection of the designer’s identity” - You are are aware of your positionalities within changing societal, organizational and developmental contexts. You are guided by a strong sense of integrity and an even deeper sense of care for the work that you do, the people you do it with and students it impacts. You are capable to lead with both your head and heart, embracing evidence and instinct to create embodied learning experiences in the art and political act of design.

Last but not least, you are skilled listener capable at collaborating cross-functionally with a diverse range of stakeholders, remaining measured in your ability to engage with a multiplicity of perspectives and hold space for the creativity of others. You can design in, through, and with real constraints.
